The California Department of Corrections (CDC) is battling crime by
taking a prisoner's metaphorical scalp. A kinder, gentler sort of
head-hunting. Seems a hairy-headed inmate recently escaped and eluded
capture by shaving his beard and long hair so he wouldn't resemble his
prison I.D.

Traditional jail togs making a comeback
The old-fashioned black-and-white striped jail uniforms are the wave of the future. If you want to be an inmate, you're going to look like one, too. It's been proven these are easier to see on closed circuit TVs, especially black-and-white monitors. Some of the jail uniforms that are solid colors aren't very distinctive. If someone were to escape, they can blend in fairly well. (With these) there is no mistake that they're an inmate.

An important part of the boot camp experience is work. Inmates are put to work on manual labor projects for public agencies. They establish a work ethic, develop new skills, work as a team and learn the value of work. An Officer leads a squad of trainees on a work project eight hours each day. |

The course is divided into two areas: the low course and high course. The low course emphasizes tasks such as getting all members of a group over a bar or through a web created with the help of a tire, tasks that teach the value of working as a group to solve problems. |
