Bootcamp instructors seek to instill discipline, work ethic and self-confidence by the administration of a strictly regimented, work-intensive, para-military system. Bootcamp inmates are required to exercise, drill, work and attend school.
An important part of the boot camp experience is work. Inmates are put to work on manual labor projects for public agencies. They establish a work ethic, develop new skills, work as a team and learn the value of work. An Officer leads a squad of trainees on a work project eight hours each day.
The course is divided into two areas: the low course and high course. The low course emphasizes tasks such as getting all members of a group over a bar or through a web created with the help of a tire, tasks that teach the value of working as a group to solve problems.
