Copied with permission from a dedicated Canadian Chromedome! Conditions may vary day to day, but in general, these are the steps I follow to achieve a smooth bald head and sparkling shine. I shave at least once each day, twice if I am going out in the evening. Note, be careful and take your time. A rush job increases the risk of nicks and general sloppiness. The following takes about 10 minutes: 1. For first time shavers, get your hair clipped as close as possible by a barber (the most fun) or with your own set of clippers. 2. Buy the best quality razor and shave cream you can afford. I use the Mach 3 and Gillette Shave Gel for sensitive skin. 3. While showering, I wash and lightly scrub my head with a good quality shampoo. Shampoo is not as harsh on my head as regular soap, plus I was given a very large bottle of shampoo about two weeks before I shaved my head! 4. After showering, I do not dry my head but keep it a little damp. 5. At the sink, I make sure my mirror is clear. I then run some hot water and with both hands, splash the water on my head, drenching it as much as possible. 6. I then squeeze some gel into my hands and apply it all over the area to be shaved. It doesn't take much gel and I can get several weeks out of a can. I also don't spend a lot of time working the gel into my head. 7. Starting on my left, I run the razor up the side of my head, against the grain, with my right hand. 8. Upon reaching my left ear, I change hands and proceed around the back, shaving in smooth strokes, up against the grain, toward the crown. A little practice and the razor will stay straight in your hand and you will not miss any spots. 9. Near the center back, I change hands again, and proceed around to the right side of my head. Always shaving up against the grain in smooth even strokes. 10. I then go at the top, shaving from front to back against the grain, starting on the left side and moving toward the right. I have the razor in my right hand, and with my left, I quickly check the preceding stroke for smoothness. This double-handed action goes very quickly across the top. Feels pretty good too! 11. I then clean up the crown area, always careful to shave against the grain. Since I have a double crown, the hair is quite thick in that area, and grows in a hundred different directions. Because this area needs some extra attention, I leave it to the end. 12. An initial rinse of warm water follows the shave. I then check for any missed spots or any areas with some slight roughness and touch them up. I also run the razor up and around my ears one last time. Rarely is cream applied a second time, but on some days, if the stubble is extra long after two or more days of not shaving, then steps 5 to 12 are repeated. 13. Almost done, I return to my bathtub, run a pitcher of very cold water, lean over the side of the tub, and pour the water over my head. This cold water rinse is repeated at least two more times. It closes my pours and leaves a great shine. 14. I pat my head dry with a soft towel and the result: The most perfect head shave imaginable. Two quick final notes: |
